2009 nominations
Each year since 1995, the Francophonie Gala has been recognizing the exceptional contribution individuals (employees or volunteers), businesses or organizations have made toward the development of the Yukon French community in a range of different areas.
This year, winners will receive their awards on Friday, November 13, at the Yukon Arts Centre. All are welcome to attend this unique evening showcasing local artists in a variety show named “Who are the lucky one?”
What to do?
Clearly write the name of the person, business or organization you believe should win the award for each category. In order for the nomination to be valid, you must also write a description (100 to 150 words) highlighting achievements, impact on the community and recognition from peers relating to the award. Nominations that do not meet these criteria will be rejected.
What are the selection criteria?
Criteria are provided as a guide. Be sure to write all convincing arguments for the person, organization or business selected for each category.
Who chooses the winners?
A special selection committee will be formed to evaluate nominations based on the contents of the nominations forms.
Award descriptions
DeRuyter-Gendreau Award
Education
Recognizes an individual or organization who has shown outstanding leadership, creativity and cooperation, and has worked tirelessly to advance French language education in the territory.
Tremblay-Létourneau Award
Volunteer involvement
Recognizes an individual who has made an exceptional contribution to the development of the Francophone community through their unstinting commitment to volunteer work and has shown outstanding leadership and know-how in their social and personal involvement.
Alma-Castonguay Award
Les EssentiElles
Recognizes an exceptional woman who has made a significant contribution to the development of the Yukon’s Francophone community through her dynamism, involvement, effectiveness and courage. For example, she may have done outstanding work on behalf of Francophone women in the Yukon or initiated measures to promote their advancement.
Comité Espoir Jeunesse Excellence Award
Recognizes an individual (young or young at heart) who has actively contributed to the advancement of the francophone youth movement in one or more of the areas in which the Comité Espoir Jeunesse is active: sports and recreation, arts and culture, education and training, economy, environment and representation.
Binet-Dugas Award
Services in French
Recognizes an individual, organization or business that has offered exceptional services in French, going far beyond their mandate, and has made a significant impact on the community. This award may also highlight the remarkable determination shown by an individual, organization or business in order to offer quality services in French.
Pépin-Landreville Award
Culture and communications
Recognizes an individual or organization that has made outstanding achievements and contributions in one or more of the following fields: literary arts, performing arts (music, theatre, dance), film, visual arts, crafts and applied arts, community cultural development, and arts education. This award also recognizes an individual or organization that has demonstrated innovation or made an original contribution to the continued promotion of the Francophone community through articles or texts that have been published in magazines or collective works or have won prizes in competitions.
Health in French Excellence Award
Recognizes an individual, organization or business who, through their exceptional involvement, has made a significant contribution to the development of quality French language health or social services in the Yukon.
