French Language Services Directorate

The French Language Services Directorate (FLSD) is a central agency that helps Government of Yukon departments and agencies serve the French-speaking public, in keeping with Yukon’s Languages Act and French Language Policy.

Priorities for Services in French

The French Language Policy states that Yukon’s French-speaking community is a partner in determining practical requirements under the Languages Act.

It states the government will consult with the community to determine priorities for government services in French.

The community has identified the following priority areas:

  • Justice
  • Health
  • Social services
  • Economic development
  • Public safety
  • Communication
  • Education*

(*Education in this context refers to government services of an educational nature or to post-secondary education. It does not include the public school system, which is covered by the Education Act and a separate funding agreement between the Department of Education and the Government of Canada.)
